What is a Steam Deck?
A Steam Deck is a PC handheld made by the company Valve, that has a custom Linux Operating System called Steam OS.
Which Steam Deck should I buy?
We would recommend purchasing a Steam Deck OLED if you can afford it. It has a better display, better battery life, and higher storage capability.
If you have a smaller budget, and you want to get your foot in the door, the original Steam Deck is also amazing it just doesn't have the new improvements that the OLED has. You can see the current prices at the bottom of the page:"Purchase a Steam Deck Here"
Does it work like a regular computer too?
Yes, the Steam Deck has a Desktop Mode. From the STEAM menu, select Power, then Switch to Desktop. You are now able to use it as a normal PC.
What is flatpak?
Flatpak is a software deployment and package management utility for Linux. We like it because it offers a way to install and run applications on Steam Deck on the writable part of the disk, with all the rest of your games and content – ensuring it won’t be broken by future Steam Deck system updates.
Can I run apps I install on the desktop in Deck mode?
Yes you can. On the desktop, go to the Steam client, and click the “add a game” button in the lower left corner, click ‘add a Non Steam game’, then find the application you installed in the list. This app will now show up in the Deck UI library under the ‘non steam’ tab.
